Want to Know What’s Going on With Dance in Regional WA?

National Review of Music Education Findings Released
School music education in Australia has been found to be of inconsistent quality and not equally available in all schools across the country, according to the recently released findings of a national review into music education.
As a result of the findings Music will be made a priority under the Australian Government’s $139 million Quality Teaching Programme. More than $4 million will be provided in Round One of the Howard Government’s $1 billion Investing in Our Schools Programme for a range of new instrument purchases and music and performance room upgrades. A further $500,000 will be committed to developing curriculum resources in priority areas. Click here for more information
National Review of Visual Education - Have Your Say
Visual literacy is a fundamental skill, increasingly as important as language and numeracy. In August 2004, the Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP, and the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator the Hon Helen Coonan, announced that the Australian Government would fund a National Review of Education in Visual Arts, Craft, Design and Visual Communication. The key areas of focus are: notions of visual literacy and its place in education; curriculum in visual education; teaching of visual education; and teacher education in visual education.Click here for more information and to have your say in the Review.
The Panda Band Joins Buy My Duck! Film Competition Judging Panel
Revelation Film Festival is excited to announce Damian Crosbie, lead singer of The Panda Band (Rolling Stone magazine’s next big thing), will judge alongside internationally acclaimed Australian filmmaker, Phillip Noyce of Rabbit-Proof Fence fame. Buy My Duck! film competition is designed to engage students in issues of consumer protection, the growing impact of these on the everyday and the rapid blurring of the boundaries consumer rights and civil rights. Media students are encouraged to get the ball rolling with their entry to win a Macintosh G5 and Final Cut Pro editing software. FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
RAMMPAAGE! …All Ages Gigs to Boost Opportunities for Young People
WAM, the West Australian Music Industry Association Inc, have just opened applications for a new pool of all ages gig funds called RAMMPAAGE! Grants are now available to young people looking to put on a contemporary music event anywhere in WA. Young people interested in music events can apply for grants of $3,000 - $12,000, plus some projects will receive specialist events management training. RAMMPAAGE staff will support young people in developing their events management skills. LiveworX Training Creative Pathways Program for ‘at Risk Students’
The LiveworX Training Program has been developed to inspire and motivate young people (aged 15-18) and to help them learn some of the basic life and workplace skills needed to access, and thrive in, employment, further education and community life. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive a part qualification of the Certificate III in Arts Administration or what is called a ‘statement of attainment’ for four units of competency. The program is for young people who are not currently working or studying full-time.
