Congratulations to Jedda Truman and Megan Klaver who each scored 15 tickets to attend the Jigsaw Theatre Company production of Shaun Tan's The Lost Thing. The production is touring Perth as part of the AWESOME Festival in November. ArtsEdge and AWESOME were delighted to take a trip to Karlgarin recently to present the school with their prize. We also were pleased to facilitate an arts workshop with students and run a focus group with the teachers and parents to discuss the needs of the remote Wheatbelt school. Web Awards (WAWAs). The ArtsEdge website also took out the major
award for the best website created in WA in the past 12 months.
Gogo Fish! Wins Top Children's Literary Award. . .A children's book published by the Western Australian Museum has won a prestigious Children's Book Council of Australia award. Culture and the Arts Minister Hon Sheila McHale recently announced that Gogo Fish! The story of the Western Australian State Fossil Emblem won The Children's Book Council of the Australia's honour book for the Eve Pownall Award for Information books. Gogo Fish! was written by palaeontologist Dr John Long and tells the story of his discovery of a 375 million-year old Gogo fish fossil in the Kimberly and the campaign by Dianella's Sutherland Primary School to have it named as WA's fossil emblem. NEWS AND LATEST GOSSAt The Art Gallery Of Western AustraliaDue to the popularity of current programs, there are no more spaces in term 3 for school bookings of guided tours or art activities. You will need to book soon so that your class can become involved in a unique artistic experience in term 4. Schools can of course, still visit the Art Gallery but there are no guided tours or art activities available for term 3. ARTRAGE And City Of Perth Presents - The Northbridge FestivalExpect the unexpected is one of the events running as part of the ARTRAGE festival in 2005. The streets of Northbridge will come alive when they are deluged with ARTRAGE performers and artists for one weekend. Want an Artist In Residence in Your School?The Visual Arts Foundation (VAF)can organise artists in residence to conduct hands-on activities in schools for students of all ages all year round. VAF artists are familiar with The Arts Outcomes in the Curriculum Framework and a number of artists provide professional development for teachers. The VAF employs the artist on the school's behalf, handles the paperwork, administration and declaration forms. The artist is covered by workers compensation and public liability insurance. Assistance with the artist's travel costs to country areas is available and extra notes available on request from the artist. HQ IS CALLIN' ALL YOUTH - REGISTER FOR 'STREET CULTURE' ARTS WORKSHOPSFrom the first week of September young people can learn various acts of 'street culture' including break-dancing, so boot it down to HQ and enrol in one of the 4 workshops covering breakdance, aerosol art, turntablism and mixed media. The Drug Aware StreetArt workshops will run on a weekly basis from September through to November and will be available to groups of 10 - 15 participants. YMCA HQ aims to encourage young people participating in the workshops to develop leadership skills in order to take on a more facilitative role whilst at the same time, encourage them to use artistic media to express personal issues and priorities that they have identified in their lives. GOLDFIELDS / ALBANYSeven Sisters: Fibreworks Arising From the West - ART ON THE MOVEThis FREE exhibition is suitable for all ages and takes place at the Goldfields Arts Centre Gallery, Kalgoorlie from October 10 to November 6 and the Vancouver Arts Centre, Albany from November 18 to December 14. This exhibition presents the work of a number of Indigenous and non-indigenous fibre artists living in the western half of Australia. The Seven Sisters exhibition highlights the cultural exchange undertaken between Nalda Searles and Aboriginal women artists from the wheat belt town of Narrogin and Australia's Western Desert. Education resources are available from the venues in the weeks leading up to the exhibitions or downloadable from the ART ON THE MOVE website and artist talks for school groups in schools and at the gallery will also be taking place. MIDLANDS / PILBARA / MID WESTYear 12 Perspectives 04 - ART ON THE MOVEThis FREE exhibition is suitable for students in Yrs 4 and up and will run at the Karratha Library, Karratha from September 9 to September 25, the Moora Fine Arts Society Inc, Moora from October 7 to October 31, and the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery from December 16 to February 5. The exhibition celebrates the outstanding contribution young people make to the cultural life of our community, and provides audiences with an insight into the ideas and influences that creatively inspire Year 12 visual arts students. The works are predominantly two-dimensional with artforms such as painting, printmaking, textiles and digital media being represented. Education Resource will be available from the venues in the weeks prior to exhibition. Upcoming ArtsWA Funding Closing Dates23 September 2005 is the next closing date for project funding applications from ArtsWA's Indigenous Arts Panel and the Young People and the Arts Panel (for activity commencing after 1 January 2006). Development Panel will be in February 2006 (for activity commencing after

Funding For Regional Projects - Country Caps - Community Art Project SchemeCountry Arts WA invites applications from community organisations and groups in country areas for grants of up to $2,000 to assist in the development of an arts activity in their own community. Projects that offer opportunities for creative expression, skills development and broad community participation are encouraged. All artforms are eligible, including visual arts, theatre, dance, creative writing, music, multimedia and film.
