Thanks so much Mel - you've been a joy and a lifesaver and we can't wait to see your name up in lights at festivals all over the world (or with your OWN late night TV show!)
In response to our recent Music in Schools Networking Event - the e.news this time has MUSIC events and professional learning taking centre stage... with a fantastic supporting cast across our other amazing art forms... it's on with the show!

Music in Schools Networking Event
In response to the National Review of School Music Education, a networking event was held on the 9th March at King Street Arts Centre between DET, DCA Key Funded Music Organisations and Professional Music Education Assocations which focussed on Recommendation 12.2:
Establish, develop and maintain partnerships between schools, education and
music organisations to support music in schools
The premise of the event was to bring together these organisations to create awareness of programs and iniatives while encouraging partnerships with school music at their core. Participants were asked to consider what the BEST thing about school music education was... a difficult question as the focus is often on what's wrong! The overwhelming response was that the best thing about school music education is that it is there... and can be built on, developed, enhanced and encouraged by creating these partnerships which not only benefit students, but teachers and artists as well.
Participants then presented information on their organisation in relation to:
- General opportunities in schools for students and teachers to enhance engagement
- Specialist opportunities in schools for students and teachers to enhance engagement
- Projects/programs featuring professional musicians (e.g. artist in residence)
- Opportunities specifically for students (for example extension performance programs)
- Opportunities specifically for teachers (for example professional learning programs).
It was a fantastic event covering all manner of music from contemporary to classical, jazz to new music and appropriate for instrumental, ensemble and classroom environments.

ArtsEdge Professional Learning 2007
It's been a busy couple of weeks here at ArtsEdge with Professional Learning stepping out to meet teachers, arts practitioners and arts organisations through our new program for 2007.
We started off on possibly summers HOTTEST day down at the Fremantle Children's Literature Centre - and a huge thank you to Lesley, Kylie and Mailee for making us so welcome! After a chance to check out the gallery featuring Shaun Tan's amazing work The Arrival we sat down with a fantastic audience who braved the heat to hear about the plans for ArtsEdge for 2007 as well as the Funding Programs of the Department of Culture and the Arts.
ArtsEdge has also met with a number of our Key Funded Arts Organisations looking at Curriculum Endorsed Programs where they shared in the expertise of Leanne Meldrum and Karyn Carlsen from Curriculum Council, and as mentioned above had a fabulous networking with representatives from the key funded music organisations, DET and professional education associations. We are looking to hold more of these through the year for other art forms so watch this space!
Our next PD is Tuesday 27th March - Creating Artistic Partnerships - being held at the Art Gallery of WA Theatrette from 5 - 7pm. There are still some spaces left for this so if you are interested in an artist in school program, either as an artist or school, then give us a call on 9224 7429 or email us!
To check out the full range of Professional Learning 2007 for arts practitioners, arts organisations and schools (teachers, principals, P&C reps - even students!) just click here!
If you are in a regional area... don't despair! ArtsEdge is working on travelling to:
