Artist Paula Hart worked with Harmony Primary School students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Using the theme of 'Water' students practiced different visual arts techniques and worked individually and collaboratively to create a broad range of mixed media works. Student art works were then photographed and incorporated into a series of photomontages which were digitally printed onto three large aluminium display panels.
During the project the school integrated many additional activities and curriculum links including an introductory Water Day to launch the project; preparation for the annual Wakakirri dance competition, the WA Government Schools Music Society Concert Series, community fundraising for the 'Turn on the Tap' appeal, and REmida incursions to facilitate hands-on activities using recycled materials.
The AIR project had a powerful impact on the school community. It raised the profile of visual arts and created a broader understanding of its cross-curricular potential.
