Perth International Arts Festival and Lotterywest Festival Films

8 February - 2 March 08

The Perth International Arts Festival is Australia’s longest running arts festival and has been an integral part of Perth for over 53 years. The new artistic director, Shelagh Magadza has made schools, young people and their families a focus for the coming Festival.

There is a body of educational research showing that arts experiences are beneficial to children’s emotional, social and intellectual development. This year PIAF are pleased to be offering a comprehensive and exciting programme for schools to complement and enrich their teaching and learning programmes.

Stay tuned for more updates and in the meantime to be added to the database contact the Education Officer Phoebe Gluestein on (08) 86488 8636 or e-mail schools@perthfestival.com.au

Young People and the Arts Fellowships

In 2007 The Department of Culture and the Arts is offering five $10,000 fellowships for young artists or arts workers 25 years and younger.  Applications close on 21 September for activity commencing after January 1 2008.

What is a fellowship?  A fellowship is an opportunity for an artist or arts worker with at least three years experience in their chosen field to take some time out to develop their skills and focus on their own creative practice.

Why apply? It allows you as an artist or arts worker to take control of your own career and is flexible to your needs.  It does not have to culminate in a project or a production. It is there for you to enhance your profile as an artist or arts worker and create new opportunities for your career.

How Do I apply? Visit the ArtsWA website: www.artswa.wa.gov.au , download an Arts Grants Handbook and an application form, then contact Rachael McHardy, Project Officer for Young People and the Arts to discuss your fellowship idea on (08) 9224 7457.

Young People and the Arts International Scholarship

Applications for The Young People and The Arts $30,000 International Scholarship close on February 22 2008 for study commencing after July 1.

The scholarship is for an outstanding young artist or arts worker to pursue specialist training not currently available in Australia, at an accredited overseas institution.  For inquiries about The International Scholarship, contact Elizabeth Spencer on (08)  9224 7315.
