    Be inspired by some extraordinary contemporary dance repertoire by Australia's leading choreographers, delivered in a unique performance season specifically for schools.

    With facilitated, pre and post-show in-theatre conversations with dance artists on-stage, the exclusive schools performance format ensures audiences develop a deeper level of understanding about choreographic practice and contemporary dance performance.

    Creative Moves

    Creative Dance Incursions

    Creative Moves WA engages young people in meaningful creative dance experiences that allow them to explore and experiment with their bodies in response to literal, abstract and figurative ideas.
     
    Our dance workshops and programs directly address the Western Australian Arts Curriculum as well as supporting and integrating literacy and numeracy concepts.
     
    We offer the following services:
    - One-off workshop incursions
    - 9 week incursion programs
    - Creative consultancy and/or choreographic assistance for assemblies and productions (such as Wakakirri)
    - Half or full year residencies
    - Professional learning for teachers - How to deliver the dance syllabus in your classroom; Integrating dance into other learning areas.
     

    Maths Through Movement

    Creative Moves WA has developed a whole program of workshops that purposefully connect the Maths and Dance curriculum. The workshops deliver content from both with equal integrity, engaging students in creative problem solving and whole body learning.
     
    We can also deliver professional learning based on the Maths Through Movement program, arming teachers and education assistants with practical skills to implement in their own classrooms.

OCHRE Contemporary Dance Company

Aboriginal Contemporary Dance Workshops

OCHRE is based at the Masonic Hall at The University of Western Australia, Perth.
 
As part of the production KAYA, the company offers an opportunity for schools to take part in workshops, either at the company's base, or at your school. Groups of 15-25 of any age or ability will learn from project creatives and cast in the following skills, knowledge areas and disciplines: Traditional Aboriginal (Noongar) Dance; Contemporary dance technique informed by Aboriginal and Indian dance; Indigenous storytelling; Physical theatre.

West Australian Ballet

Ballet Moves Workshops, Ballet Unveiled Presentation, Week-long Residencies

A visit to your school by WAB's teaching artists and dancers promises to engage, inspire, challenge and excite students from Pre-Primary through to Year 12. All activities can be tailored to suit a curriculum or educational focus area and are inclusive for learners of all levels and capabilities.
 

Ballet Moves Workshop

Led by WAB's experienced teaching artists, in this workshop students will learn the physical fundamentals of ballet including basic ballet positions and movements designed to enhance coordination, flexibility, musicality and creativity. Students will be taught classical ballet movements and create movements of their own in response to creative tasks.

Ballet Unveiled Presentation

Ever wondered how many hours a day a professional dancer trains? Or how special effects are achieved on stage? And just what is the difference between Romantic and Classical ballet? Ballet Unveiled is an engaging and insightful presentation designed to give students a greater understanding of the history of ballet, the life of a dancer, and all the elements that come together to create a ballet production. Sessions involve costume displays, movement demonstrations, discussions, and question and answer times.

Week-long Residencies

A week-long in-school residency enables students to dive deep into an immersive creative learning experience. Students are led through daily workshops containing ballet technique and the creation of their own dance piece to be performed at the conclusion of the residency. The program enables students to cement their understanding of dance and ballet whilst developing meaningful relationships with WAB's teaching artists, encouraging their creative abilities and sharing the outcome with their fellow students, teachers and the wider school community.

Open Fridays

Throughout the year West Australian Ballet opens its doors and invites you into the studio to watch the dancers take their morning class. See WAB stars up close and be inspired by their dedication and hard work. It's an intimate, inspiring and affordable experience for all.
 
Target audience: Primary and Secondary, Year 1 - 12 (Due to the nature of this event, where children must sit quietly for an extended period, it is not suitable for children aged under 5. All children under the age of 15 must be supervised by an adult)

School holiday workshops

School holiday workshops are a fantastic activity for young dancers to keep dancing over the holidays, to make new friends, and watch the professional dancers at work right in the heart of WAB HQ. You might even meet a ballerina! Each session consists of a ballet workshop with one of our specialist teaching artists and time spent in the studio watching our company dancers at work.
